Conference warned on Antarctic meltdown 02 February 05
Sorry not to post more regularly from the Exeter climate change conference, but connectivity is not good. For a good summary of yesterday’s news see both the Guardian and the Independent stories. See also <a href=”http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/newsnight/default.stm ”>last night’s Newsnight report on dangers to coral reefs and the oceans from acidification. Today’s entertainment has mostly been provided by Andrei Illarionov, former advisor to Russia’s president Putin, who has interrupted several speakers in an attempt to pour cold water on global warming concerns – but with little success so far. One speaker just warned that the chance of limiting warming to 2 degrees C above pre-industrial levels is minimal if greenhouse gas levels in the atmosphere rise any further. Above that level, ‘dangerous’ impacts on ecosystems and ice sheets become unavoidable. More soon.
