Right-wingers accuse greens of exploiting tsunami 18 January 05

US-based right-wingers are exploiting the Asian tsunami disaster by accusing environmentalists of exploiting the Asian tsunami disaster. It sounds bizarre, but apparently it’s true – climate change denier Pat Michaels, for example, fumed: “I am appalled that environmentalists are trying to ride on the backs of 160,000 dead people to push their global-warming agenda without any factual basis.” So had a single environmentalist ever claimed a causal link between global warming and the tsunami? No – but since when did the truth matter to the anti-environmentalist right-wing? Read the whole story in the consistently excellent Grist magazine.

The Small Island Developing States, it seems from my readings, are making a connection in that they fear what it will be (is, for some) like when GW raises the sea level AND a naturally occuring tsunami strikes.

It think it is very important to consider the REAL WORLD, where many things happen, natural and human-caused, which could have additive, multiplicative, or exponential impacts. We can and should do what we can and should do (reduce negative human-caused factors).
