'This Land' - video skit 23 August 04
I wouldn’t normally put this kind of thing up, as it discriminates against people with dialup connections – but JibJab’s shockwave video skit of Bush and Kerry battling it out to the tune of Woody Guthrie’s “This Land” is simply too good to miss. Watch out for Howard Dean’s infamous scream!

In which a music publisher tried to bluster the jibjab people into coughing up royalties, or something. It is a parody, but not a parody of the song, you see, so they had a point.
For some reason – probably just to annoy everyone – the EFF decided this was their sort of fun, and helped jibjab to launch a preemptive countersuit of their own, possibly but not definitely in the form of a scatological cartoon.
All of which rather boringly went away when it emerged that the song was first published in a songbook in 1945, and in those days copyright only lasted 28 years.
It’s nicely done, isn’t it? When I was a kid we had to make do with synchronised hamsters. And we were grateful.
