Was the Iraq war all about oil? 11 August 04
Well it certainly wasn’t about ‘weapons of mass destruction’, as we all now know. But oil-war conspiracy theorists got some new ammunition today when it emerged that Shell has quietly placed an advertisement for an public relations officer to work with its Iraq Country Chairman – despite Shell Managing Director Malcolm Brinded’s protestation at a shareholders’ meeting in June that “we have no activities in Iraq yet”. With BP also sniffing around, it seems that the Iraq war may well have been motivated by oil after all. “This is the clearest sign yet of how developed oil companies’ plans are in Iraq,” said Greg Muttitt of Platform, who discovered the job advert. Iraq holds the world’s second-largest reserves, with the potential to do severe damage to the Earth’s climate if it is all drilled up and burned.

Looks like Shell and BP-
beyond petroleum, yeah, right!got caught with their hands in the cookie jar (or, to be more precise, in the oil well)!! No surprise, of course. The US seems bound and determined to control the remaining supplies of oil worldwide. The UK seems to be involved so that the US will deign to give them a useful share of it. When I think how the billions80 or 90 so far, isn’t it?-could’ve have been used to help build post-carbon societies and economies, not to mention the development of alternative energies…sometimes, I don’t know whether to scream, cry, or head for the hills.
