Al Gore calls! 08 April 04

I was out having curry and a couple of beers in town last night when my phone rang. “Hi, it’s Al Gore,” said a friendly and rather familiar voice. “Hold on Al,” I said, “I’ll just get somewhere quiet.” Then, after checking that it really was the former Vice-President (I know several people who would play this one as a joke) we talked about my book, which he’s just finished reading and enjoyed immensely. He’s going to use my glacier and Tuvalu photos in his slide shows (you can watch his excellent January 2004 New York slideshow/speech on the web), and hopefully we can meet up during my US book tour in June. My friends agreed afterwards that I am now entitled to be insufferably pompous for a whole week…!
