"Doom-laden travelogue" 22 April 04

So began a review of High Tide in last weekend’s Sunday Times. Hardly surprising, you might think, from a consistently right-wing and anti-environmental newspaper. Yet reviewer John Cornwell didn’t attempt to deny the reality of global warming: far from it. Instead, he admits that the book is “alarming” and that “the rate of heating is rapidly rising, prompting disruption of the climate, as well as hurricanes, floods and droughts”. But Cornwell quickly lapses into fatalism. “It looks as if things will have to get a great deal more uncomfortable before the community of nations decides to do something about [global warming],” he concludes. “By that time, we may have reached a point of no return.” Read the whole review here.
