Kyoto Protocol dead (again) 15 April 04
President Putin’s economic adviser Andrei Illarionov, speaking with his usual restraint, now calls Kyoto a “death treaty” which he claims will stifle the economy like “an international gulag or Auschwitz”. Although most people will have little difficulty dismissing Illarionov’s latest rant as nonsensical prattle from an ecological half-wit, one person who will no doubt be delighted by this latest row is our old friend George W Bush. And since Putin has yet to make his mind up on Kyoto, the world’s media has again declared the battered protocol “dead”. Full story in the Guardian.
