Weekend on a roads protest site 09 March 04
I spent most of last weekend helping build treehouses and rope walkways at an anti-roads protest site near Blackwood, in the South Wales valleys. It’s amazing that nearly ten years after the Newbury Bypass fiasco new roads are still being bulldozed through ancient forests and green countryside. It’s even more amazing that this is still happening when it has been well-established for more than a decade that building new roads causes still more growth in traffic, worsening local pollution and global warming in the process. Thankfully we managed to stop work for the day by climbing onto the back of a tree-chipper whilst the security guards were having a tea-break. Keep up to date with this and other UK roads protests on the Road Alert website.
