Bad news 1: Howard wins in Australia 11 October 04

Conservative coalition leader John Howard is back in power in Australia – with an increased majority. That means another four years of saying ‘no’ to Kyoto and a hardening of Australia’s position as a climate change rogue state. If Bush wins on 2 November, this will further justify Howard’s foreign policy position as a US vassal state. Howard’s priorities for his next term in office? The economy, and – surprise, surprise – the ‘war on terrorism’.

If you are planning to vote for Bush only because of the abortion issue (which I know some are), then you will be suprised to know that Bush’s position is not too different from Kerry’s. Check out Bush’s webpage. He is against further federal laws against abortion, but thinks the states should decide on the issue. He will not use abortion as a litmus test for Supreme Court appointments. And a Republican Supreme Court expert said on “The Newshour w/ Jim Leherer” last week that even if Bush appoints conservative judges who are anti-abortion, Row v. Wade will not be overturned.

The final, most important point, Bush is totally a part of our American “Culture of Death” in many, many ways, including his anti-environmental policies, and including his opposition to GW bills and treaties.

It’s not just that Howard has an increased majority, he most likely has control of the senate, which essentially means that the conservative government will be able to push through whatever legislation they want. It’s the first time in about 24 years when the government in power has also had control of the senate. So look forward to three years of a radical agenda way beyond what the liberals have already managed to achieve.

Oh, joy, that means the Australian forces of the Grand Coalition will be staying on in Iraq! I’m sure that ol’ Dubya must be ecstatic!

Seems like the majority of the world is determined to “stay the course” toward planetary-and with it, human-extinction.

This makes me feel just great, as we are (as of 10/12)a whopping THREE WEEKS away from the U.S. Presidential election. I’d say God save us all, but I’m beginning to believe it’s not worth the bother….

Yeah thing aren’t really looking too good in oz. The re-election of the coalition government almost certainly means that the wonderful wilderness in Tasmania will continue to be logged, it’s a total disaster. One of the strange things, perhaps it’s more disheartening, is that the liberals are gaining considerable support from young voters who are traditionally more inclined to vote for a more progressive agenda.
