Bye bye Bush 27 November 03

The Burning Planet march I trailed earlier this month made a big splash – cleverly scheduled just on the eve of Bush’s visit, it was deluged with media attention. There were some pretty high-profile speakers too, including former UK cabinet minister Michael Meacher, and the heads of Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth. The turnout was at least 1000 too, which is probably a record for a climate change march in this country. The next one’s in March – not long after my book’s published!

I thought this article is great. I was origionally a psychologist and then an environmentalist and i’m amazed we don’t analyse our behaviour more often from a darwinian / adaptive perspective. i completely agree that almost all forms of modern politics are floundering in the face of the threat from climate change. But what would an economy not based on growth look like and how would it function, doe’s anyone know? And would it be too dangerous to suggest that religious extreamist might remind us of other values that could help facilitate the social chenges needed?

Not one politician has the guts to talk about the plague we humans are. It is absolutely sure that we are on the way to destroy the world and every living thing on it. God, who does not exist in my opinion, is already very busy to make goldmedals for every believer and silver ones for those who don’t believe. Every human beeing is resposible for the way we treat this still beautifull world and we are not even aware of that.
